Domain of the Gilded Tongue
Cleric Subclass — D&D 2024 Edition
For Roxanya, in service to Garl Glittergold
A cleric who serves a god of trickery, secrets, and hidden knowledge. Your divine power doesn't announce itself — it slips in through the cracks. Your god chose you not for your piety but for your audacity, and the magic he grants you works best when no one knows it's there.
Domain Spells
3rd-level Gilded Tongue Feature
You always have the following spells prepared. They don't count against the number of spells you can prepare each day.
| Cleric Level | Spells |
| 3 | Charm Person, Disguise Self |
| 5 | Invisibility, Pass Without Trace |
| 7 | Hypnotic Pattern, Nondetection |
| 9 | Dimension Door, Greater Invisibility |
Garl's Accomplice
3rd-level Gilded Tongue Feature
You gain proficiency in Deception and Sleight of Hand, and proficiency with Thieves' Tools.
You also gain a fey companion bonded to you by divine arrangement, with the following properties:
- Your companion is a Fey, not a beast, celestial, or fiend.
- It can take the Help action as a Bonus Action on your turn.
- This bond does not require Find Familiar and costs no spell slot to establish or maintain.
- You and your companion can communicate telepathically while within 100 feet.
- If destroyed, it reappears at your side when you finish a Long Rest.
Your companion understands Common and Sylvan and can speak both, but typically only does so when others aren't paying close attention.
Channel Divinity: The Lucky Find
3rd-level Gilded Tongue Feature
When you make a Wisdom (Insight), Intelligence (Investigation), or Charisma (Deception) check, you can use your Channel Divinity to treat the d20 roll as a success.
Secrets in Exchange
6th-level Gilded Tongue Feature
Choose two skills in which you have proficiency. You gain Expertise in those skills — your Proficiency Bonus is doubled for any ability check you make with them.
Additionally, when you cast a domain spell with a Verbal component, you can cast it without that component. Your god's magic works through winks and gestures, not incantations.
The Rummage's Eye
8th-level Gilded Tongue Feature
As a Bonus Action, you can perceive through your fey companion's senses for up to 10 minutes (concentration). While doing so, you are blind and deaf to your own surroundings. Your companion must remain within 1 mile of you. You can end the effect at any time (no action required).
Additionally, your fey companion can turn invisible as a Bonus Action on your turn. It remains invisible until it attacks, forces a saving throw, or you dismiss the effect.
Questions Unanswered
17th-level Gilded Tongue Feature
When a creature uses magic to read your thoughts, detect your alignment or disposition, or compel you to speak the truth, you automatically sense the attempt. You can choose what information to project, and the detecting creature receives no indication that it has been deceived.
Additionally, you can cast Modify Memory once without expending a spell slot. You regain this ability when you finish a Long Rest.
The Gilded Tongue Spell Suite
Recommended Preparations for Roxanya
The Information Broker
Command — 1st level
One-word divine orders: Approach, Drop, Flee, Grovel, Halt. Short, humiliating, useful, and very Garl.
Zone of Truth — 2nd level
A 15-foot sphere; Charisma save or no knowing lies. Roxanya uses it on others and steps carefully around it herself.
Sending — 3rd level
A 25-word message at any distance on the same plane. A divine burner phone for a secret-broker.
Speak with Dead — 3rd level
Five questions to a corpse. Corpses cannot run, bargain well, or update their alibi.
Clairvoyance — 3rd level
Invisible sensor within 1 mile; see or hear. Concentration. Her surveillance kit before The Rummage's Eye comes online.
Divination — 4th level
A divine question about a specific event in the next 7 days. Garl answers in something smug, oblique, and technically correct.
Scrying — 5th level
The serious spy spell. Wisdom save modified by familiarity. Perfect for a collector of secrets.
Commune — 5th level
Three yes-or-no questions to Garl. Best for confirming suspicions — “is this lie the right lie?”
I Still Need to Survive Combat
Bless — 1st level
Three allies, +1d4 to attacks and saves. Not flashy, brutally efficient. Roxanya resents how useful it is.
Healing Word — 1st level
Bonus-action ranged healing (2d4 + Wis in 2024). Picks an ally up from 0 HP while leaving her action free.
Spiritual Weapon — 2nd level
Now requires concentration in 2024 — competes with Bless, Spirit Guardians, Clairvoyance. Still useful, no longer automatic.
Hold Person — 2nd level
Visible Humanoid, Wisdom save or Paralyzed. Concentration. She points, says “stop,” allies do the ugly part.
Spirit Guardians — 3rd level
15-ft Emanation, halves enemy speed, 3d8 radiant/necrotic on a failed Wis save. A tiny gnome walking calmly through carnage.
Banishment — 4th level
Charisma save or removed to a harmless demiplane. Her “you are no longer part of this conversation” spell.
The Con Artist Cantrips
Guidance
Touch a willing creature, name one skill; +1d4 on checks with it. Usually Deception, Investigation, Insight, Sleight of Hand, or Stealth.
Thaumaturgy
Theater in cantrip form. Boom her voice, alter her eyes, tremors, flames, phantom sounds, slamming doors. The booming voice option supports intimidation in 2024.
Toll the Dead
Wisdom save or necrotic damage, larger die if already injured. No attack roll, no weapon reliance. Winning by knowing exactly where it already hurts.
The Gilded Tongue in Play
The fey companion is the mechanical heart of the Domain. At 3rd level, having a Help-bot that costs no concentration and no spell slot reshapes every encounter — combat, social, and infiltration. At 8th level, The Rummage's Eye turns it into a scout that can be in two rooms at once.
Roxanya wins fights by removing speakers from the conversation: Command, Hold Person, Banishment. She wins everything else by knowing what people will say before they say it.
