The Bound Mimic

Warlock Otherworldly Patron

Your patron is the Keeper of Faces, a powerful Archfey of identity and glamour who was betrayed and bound within a prison of mirrors, compasses, and hourglasses. His power was stolen by a mortal, leaving him weakened and desperate. While your original pact was intended for a creature of the deep sea, the Keeper hijacked the connection, filtering your magic through his own fractured essence.

He offers you the martial prowess of a legendary knight and the deceptive magic of the feywild—but he demands a price. To restore his strength, you must harvest the identities of the world, feeding his mirror the "faces" of those you encounter.

Martial Masquerade

3rd-level Bound Mimic feature

You have been gifted the training of a frontline warrior to better hide your true nature as a servant of the Keeper. You gain proficiency with Medium Armor, Shields, and Martial Weapons.

Additionally, you gain the Weapon Mastery property for two types of melee weapons of your choice. Whenever you finish a Long Rest, you can practice with a different weapon to replace one of these Mastery properties.

Bound Mimic Spells

3rd-level Bound Mimic feature

The Keeper of Faces grants you the following spells when you reach the specified levels in this class. These spells are always prepared for you and do not count against your number of prepared spells.

Warlock Level Spells
3rd Burning Hands, Disguise Self
5th Haste, Mirror Image
7th Phantom Steed, Major Image
9th Fire Shield, Mislead

Hijacked Brand

3rd-level Bound Mimic feature

As a Bonus Action, you can cause your Pact Weapon to erupt in pale, ghostly flames that flicker with the fading power of your patron. For 1 minute, the weapon deals an extra 1d6 Fire damage on a hit.

You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Charisma modifier (minimum of once), and you regain all expended uses when you finish a Short or Long Rest.

Residual Influence. Because your pact was hijacked from a Kraken, you can choose to change this extra damage to Cold damage instead of Fire at the start of any of your turns.

Mantle of Shifting Faces

6th-level Bound Mimic feature

You can manipulate the "glamour" of your own identity to escape harm. When a creature you can see hits you with an attack roll, you can use your Reaction to shed a layer of your identity. You take only half damage from the attack and teleport up to 30 feet to an unoccupied space you can see.

You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Charisma modifier (minimum of once), and you regain all expended uses when you finish a Long Rest.

Reflection of the Lost

10th-level Bound Mimic feature

The Keeper allows you to siphon the life and skills of those you defeat. When an enemy you damaged dies within 1 round of your last attack attempt, you gain Temporary Hit Points equal to your Warlock Level + your Charisma Modifier.

Additionally, you can "borrow" a fragment of the creature's identity. Until you finish a Long Rest, you gain proficiency in one Skill or Tool that the creature possessed.

Legion of One

14th-level Bound Mimic feature

You have mastered the art of becoming the faces you've stolen. As an action, you can invoke the power of your mirror in one of two ways:

Chosen Face

You transform into a perfect physical copy of one specific humanoid whose face is trapped in your mirror. This transformation lasts for 1 hour or until you dismiss it (no action required).

While transformed:

  • Your appearance, voice, and mannerisms perfectly match the original
  • You automatically succeed on any checks made to convince others you are that person
  • You can recall surface memories the Keeper absorbed when the face was stolen (DM's discretion)
  • Magic that detects shapechangers or illusions does not reveal your true form

Additionally, while transformed you can use a bonus action to summon a spectral echo of the same face in an unoccupied space within 30 feet. The echo appears as a ghostly, translucent version of the person you're impersonating. It obeys your mental commands (no action required) and uses the statistics detailed below.

Legion Unleashed

Instead of choosing a specific face, you can release control and let all the faces you've stolen surge through you simultaneously. Your own face flickers rapidly between every identity in your mirror—warriors, nobles, beggars, merchants, all cycling uncontrollably. This transformation lasts for 1 minute or until you dismiss it (no action required).

While in this state:

  • Your face shifts every few seconds between different stolen identities
  • Creatures who can see you have disadvantage on attack rolls against you as your features blur and shift
  • You can use a bonus action to summon a spectral echo in an unoccupied space within 30 feet. The echo appears as a rapidly-shifting amalgamation of faces matching your current state
  • You cannot effectively communicate or pass yourself off as anyone specific

Echo Statistics

Regardless of which mode you choose, any echo you summon has the following properties:

  • It has hit points equal to 5 times your warlock level
  • It shares your AC, saving throw bonuses, and movement speed
  • On your turn, you can mentally command the echo (no action required) to move and take the Attack, Dash, Disengage, Dodge, or Help action
  • When it makes an attack, it uses your spell attack bonus and deals 2d8 + your Charisma modifier force damage on a hit
  • When you summon the echo, you can choose for it to manifest one distinctive feature from the creature whose face you're channeling (such as a weapon style, magical ability, or combat technique). Your DM determines the mechanical implementation of this feature.
  • It vanishes if reduced to 0 hit points, if you dismiss it (no action required), or when the transformation ends

The transformation ends early if you are reduced to 0 hit points. Once you use this feature, you can't use it again until you finish a Long Rest.

Fragments of Power

Flickering Hearth

Your Hijacked Brand now lasts for 1 minute or until you dismiss it (no action required). You can activate it as part of making an attack with your Pact Weapon (no action required). Additionally, you regain one expended use of Hijacked Brand when you roll initiative.

Reactive Reflection

When a creature misses you with a melee attack, you can use your Reaction to make one weapon attack against them. You can use this a number of times equal to your Charisma modifier per Long Rest.

Stolen Prowess

You gain proficiency in two skills from: Athletics, Acrobatics, Stealth, or Intimidation. If already proficient, gain Expertise instead.

Voice of the Thousands

You can perfectly mimic the voice and mannerisms of any Face in your mirror and have Advantage on Charisma (Deception) checks to impersonate them.

The Kraken's Breath

You can cast Arms of Hadar at 3rd level once per Long Rest without expending a spell slot. When you do, you can choose to deal Cold damage instead of Necrotic.

Mimic's Edge

Once per turn when you hit with your Pact Weapon, you can deal an extra 1d8 Psychic damage. This increases to 2d8 at 14th level.

Shifting Vitals

While you have Temporary Hit Points, you have Resistance to one damage type of your choice (chosen when you gain the Temporary Hit Points).

The Keeper's Reach

Your Pact Weapon gains the Reach property, and your opportunity attacks have Advantage.

Glitch in the Loom

You can cast Invisibility on yourself once per Long Rest without expending a spell slot. When you do, you leave behind an illusory duplicate in your space that lasts until the invisibility ends. The duplicate mimics confused searching behavior.

Essence of the Duelist

You gain a third Weapon Mastery slot. Additionally, once per turn when you use a Mastery property, you can add your Charisma modifier to the DC (if it forces a save) or the attack roll (if it requires an attack).
